Uppsala

27 June, Uppsala, Sweden

Uppsala is fantastic!

It´s the fourth largest city in Sweden, 70km north of Stockholm. Uppsala is the site of the oldest university in Scandinavia, founded in 1477.
The Fyris river neatly divides the city into two different parts: the historic quarter to the west of the river and the administrative, residential and commercial area to the east.

The most outstanding building in Uppsala is the Domkyrka, Uppsala Catherdral, the largest church in Scandinavia (120 m high) which is visible from most parts of town and was inaugurated in 1435. It also houses a perfectly preserved 17th-century anatomical theatre, used in its time for public dissections. And Uppsala Castle from the 16th century sends you back to the time of beautiful prinesses with long hair and princes on white horses...

The city is full of life, even in the summer, allthough many students leave for summer holidays. Lazy days along the river, a walk in the old town, an afternoon dance in the park or maybe dining in one of the restaurants in the ancient buildings.

Our daugther resides here in an two room apartment while studying veterinary and also our son whenever he is in Stockholm. To their joy it also has to include us when we visit Sweden :D

Why not a visit to Uppsala :D
