Sevilla

23maj, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal

Such a fantastic city, Seville, Spain. We went there to admire it´s cultural richness. Though in truth also to shop at IKEA. What would the Swedish home (also in Portugal) be without IKEA?

In Seville we visited Plaza de Espana with all the Spanish regions presented. It was built to the World Fair in 1929. In the evening we tasted a lot of tapas and wine in the numerous bars and restaurants, many with bullfighting inspiration and last but not least we admired Torre del Oro, The Gold Tower, glistening nicely in night lights.

Portugal

18maj, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal

Welcome to Lagos, Portugal, where we now reside. It´s a beautiful place and very romantic... if you like narrow alleys, nice bars, cafés and restaurants with with an abundance of seafood on the meny.
It will take some time (until next January) before we start sailing again and in the meantime we´ll give you some updates of our events till then. However, since this is primarily a sailing blogg, there will not be as many updates as when we are sailing.

Morning exercise. That goes for all of us!

Lagos´ slave market, built in 1444, was Europe’s first slave market! It was here during the 15th century where the first slaves, captured and transported from Africa, were sold. Many Africans were dispersed throughout Europe, bringing a considerable income to the Portuguese monarchy and merchant classes, as well as a cheap labour force. As the major sponsor of these expeditions, Prince Henry the Navigator received one fifth of the selling price of the slaves.

Morning at the foot of the slave market...master and dog enjoying the first rays.

Entrance to Lagos marina and the six kilometer long sand beach in the background.

The old fort and the city wall enclosing the old town

One of many old churches in the old town.

Saturday morning market...

Lagos great marina!

Next door to the modern marina is the old fishing harbour.

Enjoy strolling along the nice boardwalk along the channel leading from the sea to the marina.

If you like limestone caves there are plentiful, here in low tide where the natives catches sardines with their bare hands in the puddles. And tours to see dolphins.. game fishing and sailing... and what not...
