Wiki: Åland (in Finnish Ahvenanmaa) is an archipelago between the Baltic Proper and the Gulf of Bothnia and the Southwest Finland and Sweden. Åland is officially entirely Swedish-speaking and Ålanders Swedish culture and language is protected by international guarantees. Åland is demilitarized, meaning there should be no military activity in Åland in peacetime.
The provincial government has the right to enact their own laws and scenery of Åland has its own flag, its own stamps, number plates and its own police, but included in the same tax as the rest of Finland. Åland is a member of the EU and has the Euro as a currency. Åland special status in the EU allows duty-free sales when traveling to and from Åland.
The population is 28,354 inhabitants, of whom 11,262 live in the only town, Mariehamn.
