I want to live here...

Lake Michigan, 15aug 2017

We want to live here.....

We said Auf Wiedersehen to the Raftell family in Traverse City, MI

****

Goodbye and see you soon again, we said to the Raftell family, in the small town of Traverse City, which lies furthest in southern Great Grand Traverse Bay, located in northeastern Michigan, located in .... :) Here they finished their vacation aboard Ambika Explorer after just over a week. Finding a transport to Chicago airport became a issue that we did not count on and we were forced to reschedule our route. We had to find a city that had a rental car or bus which was not easy. Who could think that would be a problem? Well, in the end we found a good sport to pick upp a car and drive to Chicago. We will miss you all!

We continued southward along Lake Michigan's east coast and planned to go to the island of Mantui. But the winds wanted different and we got to deviate from the plane and anchored in Good Harbor Bay. We anchor in crystal clear turquoise water with a sandy beach in front of us as far as the eye could reach, completely lonely. South Pacific? The evening skinny dip was wonderful (albeit cooling :) Late in the evening we saw a bonfire and two people sitting close together at the fire. Romantic! In the morning we took the dingy to the beach and went for a long walk, enjoying the beautiful wilderness! That it's not salt water is an unexpected bonus; No jellyfish, no salt that has to be rinsed off .... we never thought we'll experience fresh water like this: D

But we had to continues, we have a new crew comming to Chicago on Saturday :) so we started the engines. coastline ncredibly beautiful with high sand dunes and long sandy beaches. We want to live here .....

PS Many dunes were previously exploited by the automotive industry who needed lots of sand to the car glasses ....

A typical narrow entry to a town/City/marina from Lake Michigan on the east shore. Incredible! These harbors were made during the time of sail ships transporting cargo from north to south and they needed a safe place to anchor during the night and when gales and storms hit the lake. Typically the distance between the harbors are 30 miles.

Part of the past, present and future Great Loop.....

Amaziiiing! We just love the colour of the sea!
