Familjen Raftell är gastar på Ambika och alla har ett ansvarsområde att uppfylla ombord. Men det som upptar tiden är fiske (Alexandra) bad, kortspel, beachvolley, glass, jolleåkning......

Vi har besökt Beaver Island (men fick aldrig koll på varför den heter så) som är den största ön i Lake Michigan, där en hemsk historia har utspelat sig i gamla dagar; Ledaren för Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite) bosatte sig med sin "hjord" på ön på 1842 för att slippa förföljelse. Ledaren, Joseph Scott, utnämnde sig 1850 till Kung för sitt ö-rike där cermonin innehöll allt som i gamla sagor men krona, mantel och det hela. Han styrde sin rike med järnhand. Han fick med tiden en betydande maktposition i staten Michigan och när han väl etablerat sig på allvar (på Beaver Island) utropade han sig till polygam och skaffade sig fem (5) fruar. och 14 barn... Men handen blev alltför järnhård och när han krävde att kvinnorna skulle gå klädda på ett visst sätt, och två vägrade följa ordern utfärdade han piskstraff för deras män. Av dessa två män blev han skjuten i ryggen och dog av skadorna 1856. De två männen togs till Mackinac Island och blev aldrig bestraffade.

Från Beaver Island, som ligger längst upp i norra Lake Michigan, fortsätter vi söderut mot fastlandet under västerlandets längsta hängbro. Vi har en dag på sjön som kantades av kraftiga sidovågor men vad gör det när man spelar Chicago och kanske vinner!!!!

Vi har ankrat några nätter men nu ligger vi i en marina i lilla Northport där sol, bad, volleyboll, bowling, fiske är på agendan...

The Raftell family is "crewing" on Ambika and everyone has a responsibility to fulfill on board. But in between the obligatations there is time to fish (Alexandra) swim, play card games, beach volleyball competitions, ice cream eating, dinghy riding.....

We have visited Beaver Island (but never saw why it's called that), which is the largest island in Lake Michigan, where a horrible story has taken place in the old days; The leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite) settled with his "herd" on the island in 1842 to avoid persecution. The leader, Joseph Scott, appointed in 1850 to King for his island kingdom, where the cermonin contained everything as in old tales; crown, mantle and all. He ruled his kingdom with iron hand. He eventually had a significant power position in the state of Michigan and when he was established (on Beaver Island), he proclaimed a polygam and acquired five (5) wives. and got 14 children ... But the hand became too hard and when he demanded that the women go dressed in a certain way, and two refused to follow the orders, he issued a jail sentence for their husbands. These two men shot him later in the back and he died of the injuries in 1856. The two men were taken to Mackinac Island and were never punished.

From Beaver Island, located at the top of northern Lake Michigan, we continued southwards to the mainland under the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. We had a rolling day on the lake, with 4 feet side waves, but who cares when playing "Chicago"!!!!
