It’s all over 😥😊

How can a whole year go so fast ?! It's almost exactly a year since we bought Ambika Explorer to do The Great Loop .... and it feels like a month ago! Nevertheless, much water has flowed underneath the keel since we started and we are immensely pleased to have completed the project and got the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the US "from within".

Once the dust have settled,, we will try to summarize impressions and experiences, both for ourselves, but also for those who are interested in how we experience the country and maybe inspiring someone to do the Loop :)

Our last day at the Loop was memorable! A magical last night with a sunset over the sea and over a beach strip with the silhouette of palms trees ..... When we woke up the last morning at sea, anchored in a beautiful bay, we got a shock when we looked over the railing. We stand at the bottom, we both shouted! We knew that the bay was shallow when we entered, just over 7 feet (Ambika draws 4.5). We also knew that there would be low tide in the morning .... but anyway! It felt like we could touch the sand bottom... We simply had to do manual depth sounding, the electronic one did not show any depth at all! When we pulled up the rope and measured the depth of the water it turned out that we actually floated, we even had. two feet, 60cm to spare in the absolutely crystal clear water!

Even though we knew, it was very exciting to sail out of the bay ....     When we arrived at our friends, including the new owners of Ambika, in Key Largo we were met by the cat JJ, who immediately moved into the boat and good friends from the circum navigation. Everyone was there except the owners of the house themselves, they are on vacation in Vietnam :) Great fun to meet everyone!

Less fun to clean and put Ambika in order to handover .... and a bit sad too! Yet another phase of life, an adventure, is irreversibly over .....

Now time to do a little more exploration, still this time by car. There were places we could not get to by boat due to Hurricane Irma. Everglades City was one of them. It was just too insufficient information about sandbanks on the way there and that one of the two small marinas was destroyed by Irma, the forecast showed fresh wind.  So, we’ll just have to do it the other way :)

Lots of Man of War at sea...

Ambika on the Gulf side, going under the Overseas Highway to the Atlantic Ocean.

Ambika has crossed her wake! We’re back to where we started!

Great to meet old and new friends 👍👍👍
